Trust what a campaign is credited with
Two cards exist purely to catch attribution going wrong: a tag matching no campaign, and a form pointing at the wrong one.
The job
“I want to be able to defend the number next to each campaign.”
- Marketing operations
- RevOps
- Marketing leaders
Attribution errors are unusually expensive because they are silent and they compound. A form bound to the wrong campaign does not fail; it quietly credits one programme with another’s pipeline, and the budget conversation three months later allocates real money on the strength of it.
They are also almost always mechanical rather than methodological. The argument teams have is about attribution models; the thing actually corrupting the numbers is a tag nobody updated when a campaign was renamed.

How to do it
- Step 1 of 4
Wire the associations deliberately
The Associations step of a campaign binds it to the forms, pages and sequences it depends on. That binding is what makes the campaign’s results traceable back to it, and it is the step people click through.
- Step 2 of 4
Fix a missing campaign tag on the day
When leads arrive carrying a campaign tag that matches no campaign in your tenant, the card names the offending value. It is almost always a rename or a typo, and it is cheap to fix immediately and expensive to reconcile in a quarter.
- Step 3 of 4
Take the mismatch card seriously
A form whose lead flow is bound to one campaign while its leads carry a different tag is the subtle one. The card names both campaigns and which one is being counted, which is exactly the information you need and exactly what you cannot get from a report.
- Step 4 of 4
Read flow revenue where it belongs
When a flow reports attributed revenue, the card takes you to Lead Flow Performance rather than to a list of leads. That distinction is deliberate: attribution is a property of the flow, and reading it off individual records is how two people arrive at two numbers.
What arrives
What this puts in your Action Center
| Item | What is prepared | How it resolves |
|---|---|---|
| CampaignMissing | The offending tag value | Campaigns |
| UtmMismatch | Both campaigns, and which one is being counted | The campaign |
| LeadFlowRevenue | The flow’s own attribution rollup | Lead Flow Performance, never the processed-leads list |
What to take away
- Attribution errors are mechanical, not methodological. The tag is usually the problem.
- A mismatch card names both campaigns and which is being counted. No report will tell you that.
- Flow revenue is read on the flow’s report, not off individual lead records.
