Find any record or report in two keystrokes

Global search is how you reach accounts, contacts and deals — there is no menu item for them. What it covers and what selecting a result does.

The job

“I want to get to an account, a deal, a rep or a report without hunting through menus.”

  • Everyone

The navigation is deliberately short, and the CRM records are not in it. That surprises people on their first day, and it is the single most common reason a new user concludes a section is missing: they look for Accounts in the sidebar, do not find it, and assume they lack permission.

The reasoning is that you almost never want "the accounts list". You want one account, whose name you know. A search that spans every object type answers that in two keystrokes, where a nav item would have meant a page, a filter and a scroll.

What it moves

  • Time to find a record
  • Time spent on administration

How to do it

  1. Step 1 of 3

Open it from the sidebar, or from the keyboard

The search field sits at the top of the sidebar, and the keyboard shortcut opens the same modal from anywhere. It is one lookup across every searchable object rather than a search per section.

  2. Step 2 of 3

    Know what it spans

Six scopes, in a fixed order: the CRM records first, then the surfaces. Accounts and Contacts match on name and owner, with contacts also matching on email and role. Opportunities match on name and owner. Reps takes you to that person’s performance view. Reports matches report names, and Analyst Questions matches the wording of a question.

    • Accounts · Contacts · Opportunities — the records
    • Reps — opens their performance drilldown
    • Reports · Analyst Questions — the surfaces you would otherwise navigate to
  3. Step 3 of 3

Expect a modal, not a page

Selecting a record opens it as a modal over wherever you were, and the address bar carries the record, so the link you copy reopens exactly that. Selecting a report or a question navigates to it properly. The tab for a scope is hidden entirely when you can see nothing in it, which is why two people’s search can look different.

What to take away

  • There is no Accounts menu item. Search is the route to every CRM record.
  • Six scopes: accounts, contacts, opportunities, reps, reports, analyst questions.
  • A record opens as a modal and the URL carries it, so the link you share lands where you are.
